The University of Maryland Terrapins (9-3) are beginning to round in to form. That was evident in their 75-63 victory over the Samford Bulldogs (3-9).
Pe’Shon Howard and Alex Len again started for the Terps and made a world of difference on offense. With Samford focused on Len, guard Terrell Stoglin was able to score 24 points, 18 of which came on six 3-pointers. Stoglin continues to carry the team offensively.
More importantly, Len scored 13 points while also collecting seven rebounds. The 7-foot-1 freshman from the Ukraine should have dominated, but looks like he could be very good in the coming games.
Howard is the point guard that this team needed early in the season. He did a good job of distributing the ball to Len, Stoglin and freshman Nick Faust. Faust ended the game with 13 points. He also hit three 3-pointers.
To me, this game was more about being able to watch the Terps go nine deep. From the beginning of the season when they were getting blown out by Alabama to now is a much improved bunch. They seem to finally be buying in to coach Mark Turgeon’s style.
I’m very excited for this team down as we get closer to Atlantic Coast Conference play. I can see this team winning 18 or 19 games and once again being placed on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament. I wouldn’t have said that a month ago. They’ve now won six consecutive games and will go for number seven Tuesday night against Cornell.
