At the end of the game, quarterback Joe Flacco used a hard count to ice the game for the Baltimore Ravens (11-4). Baltimore got themselves closer to a division title and a top-two seed in the AFC playoffs with a 20-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns (4-11).
Flacco once again had an uneven game. He completed eight of his first 11 passes for two touchdowns, but had trouble in the second half. Part of his struggles led to an interception in the end zone on a bomb to Lee Evans. Flacco ended the day 11-of-24 for 132 yards with two touchdowns and the interception.
The quarterback also watched his receivers, Ed Dickson and Torrey Smith, dropped a few passes on third downs. Those drops could have easily led to a couple continued drives.
This game could have easily been different if Cleveland didn’t butcher their time management at the end of the first half. With the Browns trailing 17-0, Browns coach Pat Shurmur called a Peyton Hillis run with no timeouts left. The game clock expired and the Browns went in to the locker room scoreless.
The Browns trailed by 17 because of a touchdown to Dickson and a 42-yard strike on a wheel route to Ray Rice. Rice also rushed for 87 yards.
Baltimore’s chances at a bye come down to next week against the 9-6 Cincinnati Bengals.
