The Maryland Terrapins (7-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) overcame an obstacle that has plagued them in the past. Maryland went to Charlottesville, VA and beat the struggling Virginia Cavaliers (4-6, 1-5) 42-23.
Maryland quarterback Danny O’Brien was very good in his latest start completing 17 of his 28 pass attempts. Those 17 completions led to 289 yards and two touchdowns. The two touchdowns were two yard passes that went to wide receiver Torrey Smith and running back Da’Rel Scott.
The star of the game, however, was running back D.J. Adams. Adams wasn’t used much earlier in the season, but emerged in a big way Saturday evening with three touchdown runs against the Cavaliers.
Maryland’s special teams still left a lot on the field. Virginia scored a touchdown on a fake field goal and the Terps also had trouble covering kickoffs. Travis Baltz was very good again handling punting and kicking responsibilities.
With the win, Maryland keeps its hopes alive for a shot at the ACC title. They must win their final two games of the season, both at home, against Florida State next week and NC State the following week.

Great season for the Terps…after last season’s debacle. Ralph Friedgen is going to get some Coach of the Year votes after this one, particularly if they continue to win.
It’s a good story, but he still has made some questionable decisions. I’d like to see another 3 wins or so.
